Embassy, in cooperation with the Tokyo Steps Gallery, organized the commemoration of the late Serbian painter and sculptor Milan Tucovic (1965-2019) on 7 November.

Thanks to Japanese friends and fans of the artist response, Ambassador Nenad Glisic recalled Milan Tucovic's long-standing collaboration with Japan since the first exhibition of his works in Tokyo in 2013.

Along with the words of reverence due to the premature death of one of the most successful and talented mid-generation Serbian artists dedicated to magic realism, he recalled that Milan Tucovic also visited Japan in March this year when his works were exhibited together with the works of two Japanese artists at the gallery of one of the most respected Japanese Waseda University.

His Japanese friends also spoke about the life and work of the painter and his special ties and love for Japan - owner of "Steps" gallery Masami Yoshioka, a friend of Milan Tucovic during his student days in Belgrade and Professor of English at Showa Women's University Mutsumi Kishiyama and Professor of the Faculty of Philology in Belgrade Kayoko Yamasaki.

Attendees had the opportunity to see paintings of Milan Tucovic with Japanese motifs created during his visit to Japan in March this year which the Steps Gallery gave to the Embassy for the occasion, as well as one of his early works.
